This week at The Pixie Cottage the theme is sweet as candy!

I used have a sweet day for this card.

I wanted to keep it SWEET and simple. So I just stamped the image with rich cocoa Memento, and did some fussy cutting. So many times people look at a stamp and feel pressured to color it. I wanted to show that you don’t HAVE to color an image.

This makes a great thank you card, note card, or thinking of you. And what’s not to love about pink and brown!

This weekend is a bit of an emotional one. I found out Friday morning that my aunt passed away. It’s a difficult time, she wasn’t just my aunt, she was my cousin as well. So both sides of my family are grieving the loss of such a beautiful person. I’m a bit of a procrastinator, so I didn’t make this card until Friday even though I made the video several days ago. Anyways, I wanted to send this card to my cousins who lost their mom. Far too early in life. Remind them that… through these tough times, they are loved, and more importantly, not alone.

In this video, I’ll show you how I added the color to Tiffany Doodles Butterfly.

I wanted the sentiment to be the focus, and the butterfly to represent life. I also didn’t want a whole lot going on, I wanted it to be clean and simple. So I kept the embellishments, paper, etc to a minimum.

Today hubby and I celebrate 5 years of wedded bliss! I wanted to make something for myself that reminded me of how we got to this small milestone. Patience. (Among several other things like loyalty, trust, honesty, love and communication.) It certainly hasn’t been easy, especially since we have three young children and little to no relief. We do however, have an amazing babysitter whom I absolutely adore. Though it can get a little expensive having to pay for a sitter on top of “date night.” Being 1,250+ miles away from ‘family’ is a blessing, so I’ll gladly pay a sitter, or have date night at home. Being creative makes date nights at home less of a challenge!

So, I painted a piece of chipboard with Gesso. Then I used Lindy’s Stamp Gang Jamaican Jungle starburst color shots to create a background. I mixed the powder with a little bit of water, and filled the rest with rubbing alcohol to make it thick, and bright. Perfect for painting with! (But smelly, fair warning.) I used Delphinium Turquoise spray to add the blue.

I used my Copics to outline the letters. Then I drenched each letter with as much color as possible without making a mess! Then, to create a pattern within each letter I used a paper towel to soak up the excess. I gently pressed on the paper towel to ensure the pattern would transfer. And viola!

My husband, Canadian born, applied for US Citizenship about two years ago. He is the FIRST of his family to become a US Citizen, and we have the first US born children.

So this was his gift…

He loved it! We’re debating on where to put it, in his office at work, or in our living room!!

He also loves cookie cakes, so I baked the most delicious chocolate chip cookie cake… EVER! (And decorated it too!!)

The kids drew a bunch of pictures. The oldest is great at drawing, and using her imagination. She drew Alex sitting at the table eating the cookie cake, and blowing out the candle!

Of course no Father’s Day is complete with out a card…

I stamped the tie pattern on the front, and the stars on the inside using Ippity’s Authentic Man purchased from Julie’s Open Window. I’m not sure where the sentiment came from… but, I’m sure it was Unity.

Lets just get to the point, shall we?

I made a banner, as I typically do, so well, I might add! I really had a lot of fun doing this one- I did some double embossing.

I have a ton of background stamps, and beautiful embossing powder colors from Lindy’s Stamp Gang. Did I mention the EP (embossing powders) are two toned! Yes, it’s true… two toned!! So after double embossing each pennant, they are now FOUR TONED! Haha… I’m a little crazy this early in the morning.

And here’s a close up… The blank pennant was embossed first with a background stamp. After heat set, I covered the entire pennant with versa mark, and embossed the whole thing with a two toned EP so it would be flat. (Even though I love texture.)

If you want to get really crazy, you could add some glitter while you’re in the melting process of the embossing technique. The “A” I did differently than some of the others- I covered the pennant in EP first. THEN I embossed the background image. (I did the letter ‘C’ the same way.)

The photos don’t really do the powders justice. They are gorgeous!

Begin by trimming the base of the heart. Apply Tiffany’s Blue, let dry.

Using the Cricut cartridge, cut four 11″ waves and one sail boat. Apply Tiger Lily Red Orange to the sail boat, and Tiffany’s Blue to the waves.

Lay one layer on the base of the shadow box and use a pencil to outline the inside edges of the heart. This will tell you where NOT to put your sand. Apply sand using craft knife or spoon. Apply dimensional lacquer to seashells, and add them on top of the sand.

When the sand is dry, you may begin assembling your shadow box. Apply your choice of adhesive to the sail boat, and attach to base. Do the same with the first wave, apply adhesive to the bottom of your first wave. This wave will lay on the base of the shadow box, over top of the sail boat.

Each wave after that will be added to the layer above, creating a 3-D effect. Remember not to put adhesive (wet or dry) in areas that will not touch the shadow box.

Once the waves are added, adhere the fish to desired location. Add sun, clouds and other desired embellishments.

Cover the top of the shadow box with your choice in paper, I used Cosmo Cricket’s Umbrellas. I applied Opal Sea Oats for a glittery finish. It helps if you have some kind of sanding tool to achieve a clean finish. I prefer the Big Brother from Creek Bank Creations.

I used seam binding to give my project a way to hang. I used Tibetan Poppy Teal to give it color!

I also printed my papers on Red River Paper Company’s 60 lb polar matte, which is double sided. I had great results, and the color between Cosmo Cricket’s paper that you would pick up at the store, and what I printed at home, is so incredibly close… and I think the quality of the paper printed at home is amazing. It does really well in the Cricut, and it holds up really well when using water based products like Lindy’s Stamp Gang materials.
