I’m getting ready for Mega Meet, where Tim Holtz will be joining us! Soon after Mega Meet (in Novi, Michigan) is the Great American Scrapbook Convention (where Tim will also join us!!). There’s a lot going on in my world right now… I love it!

For the black/yellow challenge at ScrapTiffany, I made a key chain. Sometimes we need a friendly reminder that someone is thinking about us, or loves us. So I made this for my hubby… (sorry for the terrible picture)

I painted it yellow, and used a Heidi Grace clear sticker. Then I covered it with glossy accents and allowed it to dry over night.

While I was at it, I decided to make a few more! They are just so easy to make…

Not to mention, great Mother’s Day gifts!

I’ve got some great ideas for more unique key chains.

I used, Sculpey, which you can purchase at Walmart. I rolled it out, and used a knife to cut it. I used something similar to a hole punch to put the hole in, and THEN I baked it!

For the heart key chain I used: Crystal Wilkerson’s heart, Tim Holtz film strip ribbon, and I used a pen to outline the heart. I sealed EVERY key chain with glossy accents for a nice, thick, glossy finish.

Smile key chain: I used blue Making Memories paint, a purple Maya Mist, and a “smile” rub on. I used Glossy Accents to seal it and allowed it to dry over night.

I attached the key chain itself to the key ring, but you could use a ball chain to attach the two. You could even attach a pin to the back to make it wearable! More to come! I’ll do a step by step pictorial soon!

I’m going to have to put in a request to my father in law- I bet he could make one!! (Hint hint!!)

Anyways, I don’t like the plain coupon books, so I picked up this fancy little thing from ScrapArtist. When you buy the kit from ScrapArtist, you get full color, step by step instructions to print AND put together.

I printed the pages and put it together, the whole process took no more than an hour. That includes printing all the beautiful pages! (Yes you can print digital pages and use them as you would a regular piece of scrap paper!) *EDITED TO ADD: There are pockets on each page! In the event it’s not obvious!

I started by taking the frame apart, and sanding it down.

I made sure there was little to no paint or ’shiny’ finish left on it.

I used the same paper that I used on the plate, to cover this frame. But I wanted to piece it together, to give it a unique look- but still resemble the plate a little bit.

I used a dry adhesive. (I used my ATG gun.)

After inking it, I decided to do a little embossing, to add texture.

Added a picture of my girls… and voila!

Easy peasy!

You’ll need four things.
1. paintbrush.
2. clear plate.
3. PPA in gloss
4. 1 piece of 12X12 paper- anything smaller is a pain in the bum.

Step one.
Peel off the sticker! If you need to use Goo Gone, do it. You don’t want to leave even a little smidgen of sticky anything, or you’ll be disappointed with the finished piece.

Step two.
Apply a generous amount of PPA (perfect paper adhesive) to the ENTIRE plate.

Step three.
Wet your paper. Really.

Step four.
Wring out the paper.

Step five.
CAREFULLY open it up.

Step six.
Spread the wet paper out over the plate. CAREFULLY!

Step seven.
Make sure to look at the plate to see what you’re going to have on the other side- after you’re done doing all this work, you don’t want to flip it to find out you didn’t get it exactly how you wanted! You’ll have a little time. It really takes the PPA a while to dry when you’re using as much as I did! It’s great, it allows you time to achieve the look you’re going for.

Step eight.
Once you’ve got the pattern where you want it, apply more PPA. Make sure you cover the entire plate. See the tear in my paper? I wasn’t very careful. That’s okay though, it adds character!

Step nine.
Don’t be afraid to get dirty! Put your fingers in and smooth it out. You can feel the air bubbles, you really want to smooth those out. So start at the top and work them out by pushing them to the bottom.

You can look at the plate as you’re doing this. I put the plate up to the light and this is what I see…

Air bubbles! Argh! That’s okay! I can concentrate on the areas I need to push out. The PPA will dry clear too by the way.

Step ten.
I place the plate upside down to allow it to dry nicely. I don’t want to trim the paper now, because it will likely rip the paper.

After trimming the paper, this is what I’ve got! I’ve not cleaned the plate, so you can see my fingers prints on it. It is NOT dishwasher safe. If you apply enough PPA you will be okay to use the plate, and hand wash it.

Ew, I just noticed my finger prints are ALL over the plate. Oh well. It’s nearly one am… I’m not going back to it tonight!!

Supplies used: notebook binder paper, Maya Road sheer tickets, Heidi Swapp heart mirror.

I was really looking forward to making the kids Valentine’s Day cards using my new Slice Design Cards, but they don’t work!! Three out of the four cards do not work in my machine! I’ve emailed Making Memories to find out what I need to do. My software is up to date… I know it’s not user error! I tried using another MS+ design card, and that worked just fine. It’s just the three new ones that aren’t working. Not too impressed. Glad I didn’t pay for them, or I may be more upset!
